Dependence creates an emotional economy where gratitude, guilt, resentment, and power begin trading places before anyone admits a transaction occurred.
Nobody hands you a receipt when they help you put your life back together. There is no subtotal for the rides, the waiting, the paperwork, the interrupted sleep, the plans rearranged around your body or the ordinary tasks somebody quietly absorbed when you could no longer promise you would manage them.
The help may be offered freely. The debt can still arrive.
