Let Me Be New at Something.

After years of explaining what I know, I want room to do something badly without turning the attempt into a referendum on the life I have left.

Imagine handing someone a lump of clay and asking what they plan to win with it. Not what they want to make. Not whether the material interests them. What prize will justify the mess? The poor bastard has not even located the middle of the wheel, and already we are shopping for trophy handles.

I can hear how ridiculous that is. I can also recognize the temptation to apply the same standard to myself. I have practiced law, written books and spent years explaining Parkinson’s to people. There are things I know how to do. That is useful until I begin expecting every new interest to arrive with evidence that I will be impressive at it.
