When the future contains unknown costs, spending money on an ordinary pleasure can feel like stealing from the person I may need to become.
The most expensive thing on the menu is sometimes permission.
I can afford the meal. That is not necessarily the problem. The problem is the invisible committee in my head reviewing whether a person with an uncertain body is authorized to spend money on something that will be gone by dessert.
